Effective Performance Discussions
Performance Discussions are often challenging. Unless you’re about to tell a team member that they’re getting a huge bonus and their dream promotion, there will likely be some differences in perspective and mixed emotions.
In this clip I’ll offer a few tips to help you have more effective performance discussions:
1. Tailor Your Approach - it’s not a “one size fits all” situation
2. Address serious issues immediately - don’t just “hope things will get better”
3. Adjust for Low Performers, Mixed Performers and High Performers - each calls for distinct elements
4. Make it a Dialogue, not a Debate - you don’t get a trophy for ‘winning’
5. Offer your perspective, ask effective questions, and LISTEN
It probably won’t be easy, so prepare for a challenge - Welcome to Leadership!
"The objective of the performance discussion is to encourage a positive contribution and long term growth."
